The Steampunk Batman video game… that unfortunately has been put on hiatus…

Received word of a video-game version of “Gotham by Gaslight”, which looked wonderful, but unfortunately it appears it will not to come to fruition, per the report from IO9.  One can hope that this (or another just as good) incarnation will make its way to a console in the future, but for now, we have a taste of what was planned (which is, I suppose, better than nothing) *sigh*.  To see the full article, please visit the IO9 entry, at: http://io9.com/5888969/behold-the-steampunk-batman-game-that-never-was

Happy 6th Birthday, Caledon!

Sunday, the 26th of February, 2012, marks the sixth anniversary of the Independent State of Caledon, in Second Life.  I did wish to mark the day, as it was a direct reason why I had unearthed my burgoing interest in Steampunk.  “Back in the day”, approximately in mid 2006 (as one can divine from the celebratory mark), I stumbled upon Caledon I, the first sim in what is likely one of the largest sims, and by far the largest Steampunk entity in the Virtual worlds.  It was here where I re-introduced myself to the classics of Steampunk, and began to hunt down works of a new genre… which eventually led to the Steampunk Tribune!

The “Realm of the Roses”, as of February 25, 2012

If you happen to be in-world this weekend, do stop by Victoria City, and indulge in the plenitude of activities to celebrate this milestone!  For further information regarding Caledon’s sixth anniversary, please visit their exceptionally large Wiki, at: http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Independent_State_of_Caledon!  Best wishes for many more!

Brunel, by The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing!

I was looking for a musical gem to post, and I found that … and more!  The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing released a fantastic selection (from their upcoming work, I postulate), titled “Brunel”.  Not only did I enjoy it because it reminded me of the catchy tunes I’d listen to back in “punk” days (no, not “Steampunk”, but the original “punk”), but it also indulges in another, less recognized icon of Steampunk, the Honorable Mr. Isambard Kingdom Brunel.  Quite the genius, he doesn’t have the recognition that Mr. Tesla has, but was quite the character!  After you indulge in the single, feel free to take a jaunt to his Wikipedia entry, at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isambard_Kingdom_Brunel

Also, The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing will release their new album next month!  To keep track of their goings on, please consider visiting…

Rush’s new album, Clockwork Angels, will become a novel!

The rock group Rush announced they will be releasing a new album titled “Clockwork Angels”… and Mr. Kevin J. Anderson, the author behind numerous science fiction novels, will be writing a novelization of the album.  I must admit I’m not overly familiar with his work, as it has been focused on the “Star Wars” series, but I’m confident the album and novel will be better received than the last time a music group decided to use the genre as little more than background (Yes, I’m referring to the Sugarland’s Incredible Machine album, which was supposed to refer to the genre, in some way.  I did try to give it a spin, so to speak, but I don’t think it had much to do with Steampunk at all).

Regardless, for a bit more analysis, please pass an eye at IO9’s article on it, at: http://io9.com/5884531/kevin-j-anderson-will-novelize-rushs-new-album, and at: http://exclaim.ca/News/rushs_upcoming_clockwork_angels_to_receive_its_own_novelization

Vernian Process – Something Wicked (That Way Went)

In the midst of the travails of “real life”, it appears that I hadn’t updated the blog in over 2 days!  I stand accused justifiably as slacker indeed – *sigh*!  So, in the midst of preparing the next blog entry, I present a musical interlude from the group Vernian Process, a wonderful track titled “Something Wicked (This Way Came)”!  Please consider paying them a visit, at: http://www.vernianprocess.com/, or at their Facebook location, at: https://www.facebook.com/vernianprocess?sk=app_178091127385, and please do enjoy!

Google celebrates Mr. Charles Dickens 200th Birthday!

A bit late on the draw with this entry, but I did wish to mention that today (or at least what is left of it), it the 200th birthday of the Victorian era greatest author!  I realize that some would say blasphemy, and could easily make a valid argument for Mr. Verne (of course), but in the larger scheme of things, the classic works produced by Mr. Dickens are also timeless!  For further information regarding the celebrations regarding the bicentenial, please turn to:

… and a small bio on the legendary author – do enjoy!

The “Guvnah” of Caledon discusses SL land issues and economics!

Ok – perhaps not the most intriguing topic one could mention, especially when phrases associated with the word “economic” are bandied about.  Nonetheless, as a bit of an economics character myself, it was intriguing to read Mr. Shang’s analysis of Second Life’s land issues.  As the SL Steamlands oldest and most respected land owner, his perceptions on the current and future are insightful, especially as he deals with them on a daily basis.  To gain a peek at his thoughts, please take a gander to NWN’s interview, located at: http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2012/02/desmond-shang-second-life-steampunk.html

John Carter, Warlord of Mars… an introductory trailer, with a bit of analysis thrown in!

Disney released a new trailer for the upcoming “John Carter from Mars” movie – though it seems to be more of an introduction to the works themselves, vice a direct promo for the endeavor.  Not quite sure what to make of it – I always had a soft spot for the series, but I suppose I’ll have to reserve judgement until the movie is released.  Actually, a further discussion of the “relevance” of Mr. E.R. Burrough’s series can be found on IO9 (located here: http://io9.com/5881773/why-does-edgar-rice-burroughs-still-matter ), and makes for good reading.. though I wouldn’t wager the original readers put as much thought into it!  Nonetheless, please do enjoy!
