Steampunk Media: Dr. Julius L. Roundbottom

In my continual plagiarism of Miss Tinkergirl’s extraordinary efforts to research new and intriguing Steampunk locations on the aethernet, she found Dr. Julius L. Roundbottom’s academic work. It contains the research and discoveries of the aforementioned Doctor, which are, quite frankly, amazing. To investigate his efforts further , please refer to:
And of course, the source of all nouveaux items Steampunk, Miss Tinkergirl’s Steampunk page at:

I admit I’m still bewildered by some people’s desire to further categorise the steampunk genre into subgenres. Other than using clockwork over steam (and it’s not like clockwork objects are absent from steampunk stories) I fail to understand the need for the distinction.
And don’t get me started on “dieselpunk”.

I’m a bit torn on this issue – while it is good to hear and see the efforts of those involved with enhancing the Steampunk body of work (regardless of what they call it), I must agree that a continual de-evolution into “new” subgenres is annoying.
Still, there will always be individuals who desire recognition for their efforts, and “making” a “new” version of [Clockpunk, Dieselpunk, ect…] is simply one more attempt at arm-waving and extolling the “look-at-me” mentality.

I’m the creator of the aforementioned site, and I had no agenda in using the clockpunk.com domain. I bought it a while back for a friend (Jay Lake) and he never ended up needing it, and I came up with this project, so I recycled it into this project. I don’t call it a clockpunk project, really, just a steampunk one, but the domain name is short and easy to remember. I don’t intend for a distinction.

I must agree, a short and easy domain name is a key aspect to recognition and repeat visits to a site (I have renamed this site previously because of that very issue).
Sir, I stand by my assertation that your work was extremely unique and intriguing, and certain hope that you continue your efforts – regardless of the domain name.
