My apologies for being a bit late on the 107th anniversary of the earliest piece of cinematographic science fiction, but the “Voyage dans la Lune” (by two days)! Cutting edge for its time, it used innovative special effects, including the classic “rocket ship in the moon’s eye”. With a nod to the older view of traveling through space (or the “ether”, as some considered it at the time), this eight minute gem shows how speculative fiction (or what many might term now as “Steampunk”) was views during an earlier time. I have included links to longer narratives of the movie (for those who do not happen to speak French), along with a video of the original – do enjoy!
